I dream of a heroic body, this giving

of birth and giving of life

but all I have are poems scribbled  

in notebooks, half-finished watercolors,

layers of flesh incomplete.

Yes, your cheeks rosed into a diamond so I let my lips apply some pressure

To see if we could roses could make the diamond bleed

Then I would just add an additional kiss to the cheek to band-aid

Any fallen petals
