opus:
outside the lines

For the story that finds the page, there are stories that do not.

Let's talk about what we did not talk about.

Coming this fall, the diVERSES is proud to host

Opus

a speaking series from poets and musicians
selected by the community

centered on sharing the lessons that came
with writing the poems that have impacted us.

If there is a poet/musician who you'd like to hear
speak on their experiences, please
nominate them with the form below.

We'll reach out to ask if they would like
to speak this fall.

Notes:

This is not a paid opportunity.
In exchange for speaking, artists will
receive a professional production of
their talk. Their talk will also be
publicly accessible and promoted
on the diVERSES platform.

Self-nominations are accepted.

Talks should aim to be between
10-20 minutes, followed by discussion.

The subject of the talk should be
providing a lesson, experience, or
insight gained from creating a work
. These
guidelines are open to interpretation.

A script is not necessary, though
a general focus is required.

Q & A

Who should I nominate?
You are welcome to nominate any artist, including yourself. However, a nomination does not mean a selection, or that they will want to speak, accept the nomination, or even acknowledge it.

What is the speaker fee?
This is not a paid opportunity, and we are not currently in position to cover travel. In exchange for speaking, artists will receive a professional production of their talk to use for their portfolio, resume, social media, website, or other need.

Their talk will also be publicly accessible and promoted on the diVERSES platform.

Why would poets and musicians want to speak at Opus?
The majority of artists have few opportunities to speak on their work. Even those who have the chance to do so have limited chances to practice speaking on aspects of their work like this. Lastly, few artists have quality production of their talks available to the world.

Where do I nominate a poet?
Poets and musicians can be nominated here:

What happens after a poet is nominated?
diVERSES will reach out to nominated poets and musicians that receive interest, and if the poets would like to speak, we'll conduct an introductory call to review logistics, plan for the talk, and discuss potential training to prepare for speaking.

When is Opus?
Opus will be occurring in the fall 2026.

Where is Opus?

Opus will take place at the Stanza, Columbus's first and only poetry venue, as well as at several select locations in Columbus.
